How long have you been in business?
I began Life Celebrations in 1995 having been ordained in the ministry in 1969.
What is your primary product or service?
My product or service is creating ceremonies to mark the important transitions that all of us have. These include birth (christenings), wedding ceremonies, vow renewal ceremonies, memorial services, parting ceremonies (when staying together in marriage is clearly no longer healthy for the couple)and home blessings. I believe these times of transition and change are best navigated by pausing to acknowledge the joy or sorrow they contain while gathering with family and friends. People are often moving too fast to be present in the moment and my aim is to slow them down to appreciate, celebrate, and acknowledge with Spirit and heart an important moment in their lives.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I began Life Celebrations after having spent twenty years on the staff of Esalen Institute in Big Sur. I realized that many people had drifted away from organized religion and that the spiritual quest had moved people in many new directions. Yet when it came time for them to marry or say goodbye to a loved one, they had no one to help them through that transition. I feel my calling, if you will, is to be a minister or spiritual guide for people who have no minister, and I'm comfortable working with people of faith or with people who claim no spiritual path.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I am different because of my training and experience. I'm not a mail order minister. I have a Master of Divinity, (M.Div.) from Princeton Theological Seminary and I've served as interim pastor in 4 different churches in Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties. I've been a college chaplain and a hospice chaplain and have been trained in premarital counseling. For me this is not just a job. It's my calling.

I live in the northern part of Big Sur and am happy to meet with persons interested in my work in Carmel or elsewhere on the Peninsula
What type of payments do you accept?
I accept personal checks, cashier's checks, and cash. I'm not set up to accept credit cards.
Which areas do you service?
I serve clients all over the Monterey Bay area and Big Sur.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
This is a one person operation and I'm the one person.
What are your hours of operation?
Whenever people write or call, I'm in operation.
