1954.

How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I have been the Development Director here since 2012. I am in this line of business because I know that I am making a positive difference in the lives of the adults that we serve. I come from a nonprofit background.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We offer a variety of services to "adults" with intellectual disabilities.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have 2 locations. The main office is located at 850 Congress Avenue in Pacific Grove and our Senior Center is located at 408 Salinas Street in Salinas.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept in-kind, volunteer time, cash, credit card, check donations
Which areas do you service?
Monterey County.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
This is a nonprofit and our Board and Executive Director oversee our daily operations.
What are your hours of operation?
Our main administrative office in Pacific Grove is open to the public M-F 8-4. We have live in residents 24/7 here. Our Senior Center in Salinas is open M-F from 8:30-3:00. Closed on the weekends. No live in clients are at that location.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
We fill a need within our community for a group of people who are often overlooked by society. Special needs children often receive a lot of attention, but those children grow up to become adults and they need the same or more support as they did as children. Most people would rather donate to special needs children than adults. It is a much bigger challenge to fund raise for special needs adults.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
Together we can accomplish great things to help make a very real difference in the lives of the men and women that Gateway Center serves.
